The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, prioritizes teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided in ambulatory clinics. Within the department, there are 14 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 3 general pharmacy residents. Working collaboratively with Hopkins physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, these practitioners are responsible for the provision of clinical pharmacy services across a broad range of patient care areas. Services are provided in the areas of anticoagulation, ambulatory care, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, internal medicine, oncology, pain and palliative care, and pediatrics.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Decentralized and Clinical Pharmacy Services, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship will work collaboratively with our Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship teams to provide specialized pharmaceutical care, review and report on antimicrobial stewardship data for our institution, develop and apply medication use policies, participate in staff member competency, and participate in research activities. This clinical specialist will also serve as a key member of our hospital’s team to ensure compliance with The Joint Commission standard and Maryland statewide initiative on antimicrobial stewardship.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship will serve as a resource for drug information and education for patients, students, residents, pharmacists, as well as other health care practitioners. The clinical specialist will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in our ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice residency program. Faculty appointments are available through affiliation with the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Additionally, the clinical specialist will generate and support pharmacy research and scholarly contributions while seeking to assume a leadership role in the profession of pharmacy.

Preferred qualifications for this position include the completion of the PharmD degree, a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency, and a specialized PGY-2 residency in Infectious Diseases, relevant specialty training or equivalent years of experience in practice. BCPS certification is also preferred.
