The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, prioritizes teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided in ambulatory clinics. Within the department, there are 15 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 3 PGY1 Pharmacy residents. Working collaboratively with Johns Hopkins physicians, nurses and other health care professionals, clinical pharmacy specialists are responsible for the provision of clinical pharmacy services across a broad range of patient care areas. Services are provided in the areas of Anticoagulation, Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Pain and Palliative care, and Maternal and Child Health.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Decentralized and Clinical Pharmacy Services, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Maternal and Child Health will work collaboratively with our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) multidisciplinary team to provide specialized pharmaceutical care, review and report on medication safety concerns, develop and apply medication use policies, participate in staff member competency, and participate in research activities. This clinical specialist will also serve as a pharmacy representative to Pediatrics, Labor and Delivery, and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. In addition to clinical rounding responsibilities in our NICU, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for Maternal and Child Health will also rotate clinical service coverage with the NICU Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, providing opportunities for practice at both academic medical centers.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Maternal and Child Health will serve as a resource for drug information and education for patients, students, residents, pharmacists, as well as other health care practitioners. The clinical specialist will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in our ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program as well as the Johns Hopkins Hospital PGY-2 Pediatrics Residency Program. Faculty appointments are available through affiliation with the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Additionally, the Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will generate and support pharmacy research and scholarly contributions while seeking to assume a leadership role in the profession of pharmacy.

Required qualifications for this position include the completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree; a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency, and a specialized PGY-2 residency in Pediatrics or Pharmacotherapy; relevant specialty training or equivalent years of experience in practice.
